This is how a Float Level Transmitter looks like.
Inside the float is placed magnet of a toroidal shape (similar to a vinyl 33 rpm) which drives, without contact, reed contacts located inside the metal guide pipe. Moving up and down the guiding pipe, the float changes the reeds contact status, modifying the overall resistance load.

These variations are acquired by the electronic board and converted into a current standardized signal. This system enable a continuous level measurement with high repeatability and linear level indication independently from tank form.
And I was thinking, not many things always
behave the same way considering the content but not the form.
